I am a master of automation major in Shanghai jiaotong university. I am very interested in industrial engineering and am writing to apply for the PhD degree of your university.
In 1995, I entered nanjing university of science and technology, widely regarded as one of the best engineering schools in China. In the following undergraduate study, my performance remained outstanding in the whole department. I won the first prize every semester, and my total score (89.5/100) ranked first among 113 students. In 1999, I had the privilege of entering a graduate program and giving up the entrance exam. I chose Shanghai jiaotong university to continue my research because it has the best reputation in combinatorial optimization and network scheduling where I am interested.
During my postgraduate study, my total GPA (3.77/4.0) ranked top 5% in the department. In the second semester, I became a teacher's assistant, only for talented and mature students. This year, I won the Arthur fellowship, the only candidate in my department, the ultimate honor for outstanding students in my university. At present, I am preparing my graduation thesis and striving for the honor of excellent graduation thesis.
Research experience and academic activities
In my sophomore year, I joined the association of artificial intelligence enthusiasts and began to narrow my interest in future research. In 1997, I participated in the development of scheduling system simulation tools in professor wang's laboratory, and designed a traffic scheduling system simulation program with the tools of OpenGL and Matlab. At present, it has been widely used by different research groups in universities across the country. In 1998, I undertook and completed the sewage analysis and treatment project of nanjing sewage treatment plant. This is the first time I've turned a lab idea into a commercial product.
In 1999, I joined the research team of professor yu genxi, who is famous for his research on network flow problem solving and heuristic algorithm. Soon I was engaged in the design of fudan gene database. My job is to gather useful information in different types of gene matching formats. Through the comparison and analysis of various heuristic algorithms, an improved evolutionary algorithm named multi-population genetic algorithm is proposed. The improved algorithm divides the whole population into several sub-populations, which effectively prevents the local convergence of genetic algorithm and promotes various evolutionary directions. In order to balance the optimization quality and time cost, a dynamic hierarchical scheduling method based on hybrid Petri net is proposed. The practical application shows that this method can greatly shorten the average production cycle. I also used this idea to publish two papers in core journals. In recent years, with the help of data mining technology of baosteel, I have studied the comprehensive prediction of power system. This paper attempts to combine decision tree with backward optimization to provide a new solution for compound prediction problem. The project is under construction.
In addition, in July 2000, I had the opportunity to speak in English at the Asian control conference (ASCC), one of the world's top conferences in the field of control and automation. In my senior year, I met professor Lin xiaosong, a visiting professor of mathematics at the university of California, riverside, from whom I learned graph theory for my network research. These experiences rapidly expanded my knowledge of English and my understanding of western culture.

Looking back, I found that I had a solid foundation in both theory and experience, which prepared me for my doctoral program.
